I am certain my magic medicine is my regular nutritionally packed immunity “green juice”, as I am injecting goodness straight into my body.
I know these juices help contribute to keeping the nasties away and are great for alkalising, detoxing and providing me with the energy I need to sustain the active lifestyle I lead.
My morning juice generally looks something like this: cucumber, four kale leaves, two celery stalks, one handful baby spinach, one pear or green apple and an inch of ginger.
Here are some more nutritionally dense, alkaline foods to give you some ideas: Parsley, mint, baby spinach, silverbeet, cos lettuce, bok choy, fennel, dandelion, nettle, wheatgrass, barley grass, kale, celery, sprouts, cabbage, any leafy greens, asparagus, cucumber, zucchini, green capsicum, carrot, garlic, ginger, chilli, beetroot, oranges, green apples, lemons, limes, blueberries, pineapple, pear, watermelon, green grapes, kiwi fruit. Add a little filtered water (coconut water or oil are also a nice addition) or some ice cubes if too thick.
Get creative and use ingredients that suit your taste.
Make it your own, but remember if you are having juices daily, ensure that the ratio is more greens than fruit (focusing on the 80/20 rule). The greener the better, but occasionally as a treat, if you enjoy fruit, make a juice that contains more fruit. You may also like to add some barely grass or wheatgrass to your juice to increase the health benefits.
Juicing contains no fiber and no pulp. A fresh vegetable/green juice delivers essential nutrients and living enzymes, while allowing the body a break from digestion. The removal of the fibre from the vegetables means that the huge amounts of nutrients and living enzymes in vegetable juice can be flooded through the body in just minutes. It is a potent detoxification method, super nutrient dense way to alkalize your body and a great way to infuse your cells with goodness.
